Day 6

Day 6: A picture of something that makes you happy

This picture makes me happy for so many reasons...
1. I LOVE my niece Tatum. Being an aunt is so incredible. I have been in love with that little girl since before she was even born.
2. Another reason this picture makes me happy is because of my amazing husband Blake. We have been married for a year and almost 4 months now. I love being married and can't wait to see all the future holds for us.
3. This picture also shows how much we love Auburn... War Eagle!!

I can't wait for us to have a picture like this with our own baby one day!! =) I can't even begin to tell you how excited and ready I am for that day!! But for now, I love just being Aunt Katherine to sweet baby Tatum!

Day 5

My Siblings

Here is a picture of my brother, James Robert, and his beautiful wife Leslie at my graduation. James Robert is a little over 2 years older than me. He was three grades older than me, so we were actually in high school for one year together before he moved away to Auburn. Then we got to spend two years together in Auburn. Now, James Robert and Leslie live in Mobile... so we get to see them whenever we visit my parents too. We have had so many wonderful memories together, and I look forward to so many more great times in the future. One of my favorite things about my brother is his sense of humor. I can't even begin to describe him in a few words here.

When I married Blake, I got to add a few more siblings too!!

Wade... Blake's brother and our sweet niece, Tatum

Amy (Wade's wife), Summer, and Elizabeth

The Lord has given me so many blessings... and I am so so very thankful for all my siblings!!

Day 4

My Parents
My mom and dad have been such a blessing in my life. I have always had a great relationship with them and appreciate them more and more each day. My mom, Janice, is the guidance counselor at the high school where I graduated. She is an amazing picture of what a Godly woman, wife, and mother is, and I continue to learn so much from watching her life. She is the greatest prayer warrior and always has the right encouraging word for me. I absolutely love driving to and back from work because this is the time that I get to spend talking with Mom and getting to hear all about her day. Not living in the same town is difficult, but we survive by replaying our days during our talks. I hope I can be as wonderful of a mom as she is!
My dad, James, is such a great father and husband. Many of the qualities I wanted in a husband (which I found in Blake), I saw in watching my dad lead our family. He is a great role model. He also has the best sense of humor (don't tell him I said that...) Haha! He LOVES puns... seriously. You will just have to meet him if you have never experienced this for yourself. In all seriousness, he is the greatest Dad I could ask for.

Day 3

Day 3: My first love

1 John 4:8 - Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Considering this verse, I did not know what true love was until I surrendered my life to God when I was 12 years old. So at that point in my life, I discovered my first love in Jesus Christ and what he did for me on the cross.

1 John 3:16 - This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

While I can never love perfectly, I strive to love my husband, family, and friends with this type of sacrificial love Christ displayed for us. Blake has taught me so much about love in the 4 years we have been together and this past year of marriage. Marriage has challenged me and taught me so much about what true love means. True love is not always pretty... it's doing the dishes when you don't feel like it, staying up late working through disagreements, loving in unlovely circumstances, and forgiving mistakes. But don't get me wrong, love is also more beautiful than anything I could ever imagine. It gives you those butterflies in your stomach, peace that everything is right because you are together, and anxious excitement about all the future might hold. The best feeling is knowing that Blake will be by my side through it all. That is true love.

Day 2

Day 2: Meaning behind your blog name

Well that's an interesting topic. When I first started my blog, I called it "this.is.life"... but then I decided that was too plain and generic. haha! So I changed it to "The Thaxton Life." Obviously, not so plain and generic anymore. Where I originally got that idea was from my sister-in-law Summer who called our wedding "the making of a Thaxton." Since I started my blog just a few months after we were married, I felt that name was appropriate. So there it is... the story behind my blog name.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Wednesday! =)

30 Day Blog Challenge: Day 1

Hello there!! I have been quite lazy in blogging lately... mostly because I don't know what to write about. So, I have been following a friend's 30 day blog challenge and think that I am going to try it out! I may not be able to blog EVERY single day... but I will complete the 30 blogs (one day!). Well, here we go!!

Day 1: Introduce, recent picture, 15 interesting facts
My name is Katherine, and I just recently turned 23. I graduated from Auburn University's Nursing School (WAR EAGLE!!!) in May 2010. Since graduating, I have been working as a labor and delivery nurse in Montgomery at Baptist East. I absolutely LOOOOVE my job!! I get the joy of experiencing the miracle of birth every day... who could ask for a better job description?! I work night shift and really love my co-workers!! The best part of my job is knowing that I am exactly where the Lord wants me for this season in my life.
On August 8, 2009, I married my best friend and love of my life, Blake. We LOVE being married and just love to live life together. He is currently in graduate school at Auburn getting his masters in Horticulture... so he frequently refers to me as his "sugar momma." =) That pretty much sums up my life!
